..Dkon One..
TCS: How long have you been writing?
Dkon: About 6 years.
TCS: You ever been caught painting?
Dkon: I have had a few run-ins. Nothing worth talking about. Most of the times they didn't know I was painting, they just wanted to harass me.
TCS: What are your views on Hip-hop and graffiti??
Dkon: Graffiti is not hiphop. The styles I enjoy the most are usually created by heavy metal cats... I guess it just depends on the person. I think people try to make graffiti hiphop..
TCS: What do you enjoy about painting the most?
Dkon: I like the fact that there could be a thousand things going on around you; hookers, traffic, hobos, police, walkers, and you go un-noticed but once you leave the spot, it is anything but un-noticed. I also like when I see my shit during the day after hitting it.
TCS: You ever had some crazy beef where you were ready to kill?
Dkon: I'm a lover not a fighter.
TCS: What is your surface of choice to paint on?
Dkon: TRAINS!!! Because I can rock without doing it in or near my city. I dont care of the "scene" my city has and though I respect the fact that it has a weak illegal scene, I want nothing to do with it period.
TCS: I know you're a big hater of legal stuff. Did you ever consider doing legals or have done them before?
Dkon: I started out with legal work. It's not that I neccesarily 'hate' legal work. I respect those who do legal paintings, but that is art, not to be confused with GRAFFITI. Of course graffiti means something different to every person. To me graffiti is not and never was meant to be legal. It's a spit in the face to graffiti itself in my opinion. I have more respect for someone who is doing fills in the streets while risking their freedom for their reason than I do for those who paint legal walls while their car stereo is blasting hiphop and two liters are strung out across the ground like it's a picnic.
TCS: Since trains are your favorite thing to destruct... You ever almost been hit by one?
Dkon: I had a semi-close call once. It basically comes down to how attent you are. If you are walking around any automobile and not paying attention you have a higher risk of being struck by it. The more attention that is paid the better chances you have of not being struck.
TCS: Do you think society has a bad attitude towards graffiti?
Dkon: I think a huge part of graffiti is the fact that society isn't suppose to like it. I used to wish so bad for a legal wall in my city, and wish that everyone could see that painting words and slogans wasnt a terrible thing. Now I respect the fact that graffiti is looked down upon. It's one of the main ingredients to it's existance. I don't like the commercialization of graffiti. Fuck a legal wall, fuck a "hiphop" Sprite commercial with graffiti scrawled across the walls in the background. It's no good. It's no longer an 'underground' thing...
TCS: Does anything motivate you to paint or do you just do it?
Dkon: Well, sometimes I get busy doing other things and I dont paint for a little bit and getting out there and painting again is really tough, but once I hit a few pieces I relaps and am addicted again.. It just becomes part of my daily routine.
TCS: Has anything ever made you feel like you should just quit and not go back?
Dkon: Yeah.. The drama has made me want to quit and not go back. That's why when I am painting I like to do it alone and not with a crew or with too many other people. I have found that the less writers I surround myself with the less drama there is. I paint to paint, not to associate and make friends.
TCS: Did you ever just paint to collaborate with people and meet new people?
Dkon: No, meeting people and collaborating does happen. But I have met quite a few 'writers' in my area who paint specifically as a status thing, to make friends.
TCS: You think you will still be quiting and getting addicted to paint within the future?
Dkon: Yeah I will still be writing. I will write until I die and I am fine with that.
TCS: Do you actually see yourself being like 40 years old painting?
Dkon: I dont even see myself being alive at 40.
TCS: Any last words or comments??
Dkon: I'm an alcoholic.
