Last week in the middle of the night, police officers were on an emphasis
patrol in Ballard due to the recent arson fires in north Seattle. They
encountered a suspicious man walking westbound on Northwest 65th Street
who began reversing directions when he saw the officers. The man appeared
lost or was avoiding the law. After a number of requests to stop, the man
finally complied. He then thrust his hands into his coat pockets. He was
patted down for weapons and the officer noticed fresh paint on his hands.
He had a backpack with spray paint cans that smelled like they had been
used recently. He admitted to having contact with police on a previous stop
because he was doing graffiti. The young man was taken home. The father
said the son must have left home after 11 p.m., but he didn’t know where
his son went. He knew about his son’s graffiti problem and was having a
difficult time with it. The spray paint and backpack were taken into evidence.
The suspect’s moniker is “SNACK.” His preferred spray paint is the
Rustoleum brand in the colors white and black. His targets that night
were a bus shelter, cafe window, garbage container and an apartment building.
